Barre Baptist Fellowship Helps Hungry at Christmas Time
Christmas was special this year at Barre Baptist Fellowship and the Open Door Soup Kitchen. We assembled Christmas Gift Bags for the homeless and less fortunate in the Barre area and prayed over the bags asking for God's blessing on the ones who would receive it. God truly blessed the church through this experience. We planned to only make up 60 bags due to a tight budget, but donations came from many like minded friends and we were able to put together and distribute 114 gift bags. These bags where the only gift some of them recipients received at Christmas. We where able to fill the bags with hats, socks, gloves, scarves, candy, cookies and many other items that were both useful and needed. It was such a blessing to see the joy on their faces of those that received the bags. They knew that someone cared about them and many of them expressed thanks to Jesus. Our Christmas Eve service was joyful and Spirit led. We had special music from 2 of our own youth and another church member sang the Little Drummer Boy. When most of your congregation comes from either the soup kitchen or homeless shelter, it is special to see them step up and take leadership in such services. The whole congregation sang Silent Night by candle light and we closed by singing Happy Birthday to Jesus with a cake and ice cream.
