Vermont Baptists Take to the Streets!!!

Young moms pushing toddlers in strollers, senior adults hobbling with canes, middle aged couples in stylish warm up suits and individuals with every kind of walking shoe imaginable hit the streets across Vermont during the month of March. Though they came from different walks of life and attend different churches, these people were united in their efforts to pray for a move of God's Spirit across Vermont during the Resurrection season. All of these people are members of one of seven Green Mountain Baptist Churches that committed to prayerwalk their communities as part of the North American Mission Board's God's Plan for Sharing emphasis. Wendy Grant, a member of Faith Community Church in Barre, said, "Praying is the kingdom come, prayerwalking is the Kingdom coming, and this morning, the Kingdom will be coming across Barre." After her words of encouragement, the group spread out across the city with a list of names provided by the Baptist Convention of New England to pray individually for every person who lived on the streets around the church. A member of the church Randolph said, "I've never experienced such a sense of the Lord's presence as I did when we prayed over the homes in our town." A member of another participating church said, "I was moved to tears as I realized how many people in my own area needed Jesus." The prayerwalking was followed up by a variety of mailing and outreach efforts designed to invite the community to attend Easter services. Dr. Terry Dorsett, GMBA Director said, "I believe this unique combination of missional and attractional efforts will be used by the Lord to draw people to Himself. I just can't wait till Easter!"
