Vermonters Take Mission Trip to North Carolina
In June the Green Mountain Baptist Association hosted a mission trip to Burgaw, North Carolina. Burgaw is a beautiful, historic, coastal town. The heat and humidity, foods, and warm ocean water were somewhat unusual for this adventurous mission team. After traveling over 2000 miles to work alongside Mission Baptist Church and Burgaw Baptist Church, the Vermont team engaged in servant evangelism throughout the small town. The team also worshipped in both host churches. They held block parties with food and music, helped prepare for an outreach at the upcoming Blueberry Festival and made cookies and thank you notes for the local town leaders and shop owners.
Another big part of the effort was the reconstruction of several homes. Tremendous progress was made and the homeowners were delighted with the changes. Several of the homeowners attended the block parties and at least one woman expressed the desire to begin attending church regularly.
Dewey Aiken, team leader, said “We can say without a doubt that this was one of the best mission trips we have ever led." Terry Dorsett, GMBA Director of Missions, said "North Carolina Baptists have come to Vermont to help us hundreds of times in the past three years and it is fitting for us to also go and help them reach their area for Christ. That is what true partnership is all about."
