Youth Lead Worship Service

On the night of April 4, 2008 they came from the towns of Barre, Montpelier, Orange, Websterville, Berlin, East Montpelier and Washington. Some came alone, others in groups. Some knew each other and quickly joined in the conversation, others stayed off to the side trying to decide where they fit in. Some grew up in church and knew the "lingo," some came from other faith traditions and struggled to connect their previous background with what they were hearing and still others knew nothing about spirituality and watched with intense curiosity what was going on around them. What joined all these diverse individuals together was their age. Each was a teenager and had gathered at the Faith Community Church in Barre VT for the first ever youth led worship service in Central Vermont.
The 8 member worship band was made up entirely of teens. Both the corporate prayers and the ten small prayer groups were led by teens. The testimonies and special music were all delivered by teens. Only the short devotion at the end was done by an adult. Forty seven teens and 9 adult youth workers spent 90 minutes praising God and giving Him glory. They also managed to eat 15 pizzas, nearly 300 cookies, a pot of coffee and ten 2 liters of soda.
Terry Dorsett, Director for the GMBA, says: "I believe there is a God inspired revival happening among the teens of Central Vermont. I am pleased that God has seen fit to put the Green Mountain Baptist Association in the middle of it. In a time when many congregations are losing their young people and watching their membership slide into decline, our association is seeing a mighty outpouring of God's Spirit wash over teenagers. May God, in His all powerful wisdom, continue to work in the hearts of the next generation. May God raise up leaders from within this new generation that will carry the church to new levels of spiritual intimacy with God."

I agree with what Terry (my dad!) has said. I also see a revival among the teens in Central Vermont. I am the leader of our teen youth band and I have personally seen the growth in the members of my band, and also my friends in the youth group. Almost all the kids in our youth group would say they believe in God, which is really unheard of for Vermont teens. Its amazing to see God at work among my friends, and myself.

I was not there, but I was home praying for the service, for the praise team leaders, and for each youth who would be there. There is a group of us here in Honea Path praying for the youth in Vermont, and that you all will be the ones to lead them to a new life in Christ!

I was there and I was not one of the teens but the grandmother of some of the teens. I was helping serve the pizza and cookies and it was a waonderful service. I was thinking how wonderful this is to see so many teens in Gods house today and they were being told the turth. I was thinking boy waht a difference in the way we can worship from my generation of many years ago. It was great and the devotion that Terry gave was most impressive and had to make each one there to stop and think. I encourage all teens to come to the next one. You are really missing out if you do not. Grandma Dorsett

What a wonderful job Katie and the band did leading worship. Marshall's testimony was powerful. Keep up the great work.
